The Way

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

This was said to Thomas after he asked the Lord what they should do if they do not know where they are going. Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

When I think about these verses, I wonder how many times in my own life that I have stopped and asked the Lord, “where am I going?” How many times have I focused on the destination? How many times have I forgotten about the journey? These kinds of thoughts come up a lot when we try to figure out what our vocations are. I know for me, I would always pray that the Lord would tell me what He wants me to do and who He wants me to be. Only recently, when I was accepted into seminary, that I made a realization. The Lord will tell you when you are ready. All we have to do Is follow him. You don’t need to know where you are going, you just need to go! You don’t even need to know the way. Jesus is the way, follow Him with your whole being and He will lead you to the end. Set yourself up for the right path and stay on it. We must already face way too many distractions, why put more in your way?

I have talked about this before, but… as long as you are: 1. In a state of grace, meaning you have not committed mortal sin without having gone to confession. 2. Doing your daily duties. If you are in school, that means studying and going to class. 3. Praying every day. Pray that the Lord will guide you. If you do these three things, you can’t really go wrong. Sometimes I find It easier for me to focus on the future instead of what is here now. I am so worried about knowing the way but all I have to do is know Jesus to the best of my abilities! The Lord will tell me the way one step at a time.

“Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very, very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence.”― John Paul II
