“Let me Love you”
A new friend of mine was telling me a story about one of his friends. These guys had been friends for a while. My friend would turn to this guy for advice as he respected him. However, one time his friend tried to do something for him but he would not let him. His friend turned to him and asked, “Why won’t you let me love you?” This question changed my friend’s life. When I heard this story, I immediately thought of my own friends. I wondered if I have ever done this to someone or if someone has ever done this to me. My friend explained that yes, it was a valid question to ask in a friendship. But the reason that question changed his life is because of how it applied to his relationship with God.
When I looked at this regarding my friendships, I first thought of any friends that did not let me love them. But I realized that it was more important to focus on my own actions. So, I thought about some of my friendships. I remembered once I was talking with a girl who I was dating. She was getting frustrated with me because I was very busy and couldn’t give her a lot of time. I finally asked her what it was she wanted me to do. She said,” I do not care! I just want to love you.” She didn’t want anything special. She just wanted me and my time. Now this was a romantic relationship, but this idea can be applied to all relationships. When you are with your family and friends, are you fully giving them your time?
After this girl spoke to me, I remember immediately wondering if that’s how God feels. During these times, I was focused so much on what God wants me to do. I wouldn’t just let God love me. Maybe I didn’t believe I was forgiven. When I was younger, I would never believe I was forgiven after I would go to confession. I just didn’t believe I was worthy. I wasn’t letting God love me the way that I should. God has given us so much because He loves us. Sometimes, God just wants you to spend time with him. Let Him love you.
